Aug 11, 2020 (newstodate): -This ever-changing environment calls for flexibility and agility, says Unndor Jonsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales and Marketing.
-We are lucky to have our freighter fleet on firm footing, but the passenger fleet is basically stuck on ground these days.
-Two Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft were due for C-checks and other maintenance in 2020, so we decided instead to phase them out to save costs as they would probably not be flying for quite some time. Also, a decision is pending to phase even a third aircraft which would leave us with four operational aircraft on stand-by till the passenger traffic picks up again.
-On the freighter side business is quite active, while operations are comparatively difficult as we have to shuffle crews around. Otherwise, this is running OK with a healthy schedule and a quite good number of flights.
-We have just phased in one more Boeing 747-400F and expect to add one more these days, bringing the fleet to nine, operating on ACMI contracts for customers including Magma Aviation, Saudia Cargo and Astral Aviation, says Mr Jonsson.
