Aug 18, 2020 (newstodate): The Invisible Hand governing the prices as supply and demand vary in the market will make a deep impact on rates in the cargo charter market this autumn.
-Only one year ago, the freighter market was at a low as an abundance of cargo capacity was provided by passenger aircraft, says one Danish industry observer requiring anonymity.
-This changed abruptly as the passenger air transport market collapsed during the current corona pandemic. And as a result, freighters parked around the world were reactivated and brought back to commercial life. Within a very brief period of time, these aircraft have now accumulated so many flight hours that they are facing B and C-checks and thus leaving the market again, permanently or temporarily.
-The outlook for chartering freighters on ad-hoc and short-term contracts is thus changing dramatically already from September as the scarcity of freighter aircraft capacity sets in.
-The result will be a dramatic spike in aircraft charter rates - reflecting on air cargo rates as well, he says.
