Aug 07, 2020 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo is in the market with a strong bid for tailored all-cargo operations with its passenger aircraft.
The company is advertising multiple weekly frequencies to destinations including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Xi’an, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore, offering daily, or one-off, cargo services to these and other Asian cities.
Cargo charter flights within the existing network can be arranged within 24 hours lead time, while all-cargo flights to destinations outside Finnair’s scheduled flights network will require approximately one week's notice.
The all-cargo flights are operated with A350 aircraft lifting 110-130m3 shipments, or up to some 40 tonnes, as well as with three A330-300 aircraft carrying up to 230m3 of shipments.
Finnair's first all-cargo flight with an Airbus A350-900 passenger aircraft was performed on March 28, 2020, between Helsinki and Seoul, but till the end of June 2020, the carrier had performed no less than 602 one-way cargo flights, mainly between Finland and Asia.
And it pays off: "Cargo exceptionally accounted for over 70 percent of our revenue for the quarter, and its profitability remained at a good level", Topi Manner, Finnair Group CEO, stated in the Finnair Group Half-year Report 1 January – 30 June 2020.
