Aug 22, 2020 (newstodate): The Danish forwarding and logistics company Blue Water is back in the air with new dedicated cargo charter flights from later this month.
With the first of so far four operations out of Shanghai on August 21, 2020, Blue Water is chartering an AN-124 freighter into Denmark's Billund Airport with PPE for distribution to a number of European countries including, besides Denmark, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
Already now, similar operations are scheduled for August 26 and 29, as well as September 5, 2020, while flights beyond this date will be performed if still sustainable and required in the market.
-With the recurrent outbreaks of the pandemic in many European countries, the demand for PPE, notably facial masks, is rising exponentially in an environment marked by lack of capacity on commercial carriers. This drives the need for a resumption of an air bridge by chartered freighters, says Ole Haahr Hansen, Blue Water Head of Airfreight.
-Customer book huge and voluminous shipments for 100 or 200 cubic meters that call for large freighter aircraft, so our operations will be performed with AN-124 and Boeing 747 freighters from Antonov and Volga-Dnepr Group exclusively.
-At Shanghai Airport, the flights are handled by Blue Water's long-time partner, Cargo Services Group with 17 offices in China and a strong network of warehouses.
-Experience from the earlier Blue Water air bridge proved that this secures a high service quality and a flexible approach to our requirements - as well as a seamless cooperation with the Chinese authorities involved.
-While the coming series of flights is easily filled with our own shipments, any forwarder with an urgent need for ad-hoc capacity is still welcome to contact us, says Mr Hansen.
With the first flight on May 9, 2020, Blue Water launched a temporary air cargo service between Denmark and China in a partnership with SAS Cargo.
A total of nine operations were performed, with the series completed on June 7, 2020.
