Aug 27, 2020 (newstodate): The Danish charter and ACMI operator Great Dane Airlines is eagerly awaiting news from Vietnam that saw another and unexpected spike in COVID-19 by end of July 2020.
That put the brakes on the six-months Bamboo Airlines wet-lease from Great Dane Airlines of two Embraer E195 aircraft with 45 cockpit and cabin crew members for domestic operations from early August 2020 on three routes into Con Dao, a small airport with 1,800m runway.
-Statistics on coronavirus in Vietnam are again rather promising, showing a basically controlled and stable situation, and we expect to hear news on the operation on September 1, 2020, says Thomas Hugo Moller, Great Dane Airlines managing director.
-The crews are ready to be reactivated for the project, and agreed by the Vietnamese customer Bamboo Airways we have been able to utilize one of the two aircraft on charter operations out of Aalborg Airport while the other aircraft has been parked at Billund Airport.
-As for any other airline, the current situation is a challenge but thanks to our good cooperation with tour operator Bravo Tours we will see some growth in operations with an increase in flights to Greek island destinations in September, says Mr Moller.
Great Dane Airlines started out from June 14, 2020, with scheduled flights on a network from Aalborg Airport to destinations including Dublin, Edinburgh and Nice alongside offering capacity for Danish tour operators.
The focus was since turned to charter and ACMI services, leaving plans for the resumption of scheduled operations till a later date.
In the fleet are three Embraer E195 aircraft, two of which are now painted in Bamboo Airlines' livery.
