Aug 13, 2020 (newstodate): Scandinavia is to lose its only direct, non-stop air link with India.
Air India has decided to close down its routes between Delhi and five European destinations Copenhagen and Stockholm, as well as Milan, Madrid, and Vienna.
The routes have not been served since March 2020 as the pandemic struck, and as no "bubbles" have been created between India and these five markets the flights have been closed down indefinitely.
Air India launched flights between Delhi and Stockholm from August 15, 2017, and between Delhi and Copenhagen from September 16, 2017, both served by three weekly rotations using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, and as late as by the start of this year, rumors were that the Star Alliance carrier was mulling plans for opening flights to Mumbai as a second Indian destination from Scandinavia.
In the Nordic region, Finnair will again be alone in providing direct flights to India, having served this market since November 1, 2006, with flights to Delhi.
