Aug 13, 2020 (newstodate): International air traffic between China and the world is picking up again.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Wu Shijin, head of CAAC security department, announced that from August 12, 2020, China has opened regular passenger flights with 50 countries of the world suspended since early in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Today, 187 passenger flights are operated by 93 airlines including 74 foreign and 19 Chinese carriers offering 210 weekly flights to and from China, according CAAC.
Even so, the volume of air traffic between China and the rest of the world is still far from back to normal.
As one example, Finnair is now back in the air on the route between Helsinki and Shanghai, and already planning for adding frequency.
The route was reopened after the long hiatus since March 2020 with one weekly rotation from July 24, 2020 - but pending government approvals Finnair will add a second rotation from Mid-August, all flights operated with Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Finland has opened its borders for work-related travel from China while entry to Finland remains restricted, pending an EU level decision on reciprocity.
