Aug 03, 2020 (newstodate): A low season in cargo in "normal" years and further aggravated by the current coronavirus pandemic and low global trade activity, July 2020 saw cargo volumes through Denmark's Billund Airport down by 25,6 percent, y-o-y.
A total of 4,620 tonnes were handled including 1,227 tonnes of imports, down 43 tonnes, and 3,393 tonnes of exports, also down 16.4 percent, y-o-y.
January-July 2020 thus generated a total of 37,283 tonnes of cargo, a decline by 10.7 percent, including 11,194 tonnes of imports, down 10.7 percent, and 25,369 tonnes of exports, down 10.8 percent, y-o-y.
Most of the cargo handled at Billund Airport is shipments trucked between the airport and the major European airports where air traffic remains at low levels since March 2020, leaving a strong mark on Billund's volumes where integrators, Turkish Airlines Cargo and ad-hoc freighter operations still keep wheels turning.
