Jul 02, 2020 (newstodate): As countries are cautiously opening up after a prolonged spell of curfew and uncertainty, even charter flights are returning.
As one example, TUIfly Nordic has announced its plans for July and August 2020 with a weekly flight from Billund to Chania from July 16; one weekly flight from Gothenburg to Rhodes from July 17; one weekly flight from Helsinki to Chania and Rhodes from July 18 & 19, respectively; one weekly flight from Stockholm to four destinations Chania, Larnaca, Palma Mallorca and Rhodes on various dates from July 2-20.
This is still a far cry from last summer when the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX fleet caused a huge demand in the market for ACMI services.
One company serving also TUI in summer 2019 was the Danish ACMI provider Jet Time that supported TUI with much-need capacity during the summer peak.
In today's flat market, Jet Time is itself fighting a last-ditch struggle to keep afloat with all aircraft grounded and lay-off of nine out of 10 employees.
