Jul 29, 2020 (newstodate): With the opening flight on August 27, 2017, Wizz Air became the first foreign low-cost carrier at Russia's St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport - and is now poised to growing its network further.
From December 2020, Wizz Air will base a second Airbus A320 aircraft to add five new Italian destinations to the route network of Pulkovo Airport: Bergamo, Venice, Bologna, Turin, and Catania, starting from December 2020/January 2021.
Wizz Air started out with flights to Budapest and London and has earlier announced the opening of flights on new routes from St Petersburg to Bratislava, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Malta, Oslo, Salzburg Sofia, Stockholm Skavsta, and Vilnius from this autumn - pending the reopening of the markets.
Launching its base at St Petersburg in June 2020 with one Airbus A320 aircraft, the carrier is now in a position to fully exploit the 7th Freedom Rights allowing it to carry passengers or cargo between two foreign countries without any continuing service to its own country, as well as the visa-free access to the region, enforced from the start of 2020.
