Jul 31, 2020 (newstodate): Now back in the air on the route between Helsinki and shanghai, Finnair is already planning for adding frequency.
The route was reopened after the long hiatus since March 2020 with one weekly rotation from July 24, 2020 - but pending government approvals Finnair will add a second rotation from Mid-August already, all flights operated with Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Finland has opened its borders for work-related travel from China while entry to Finland remains restricted, pending an EU level decision on reciprocity.
Finnair has been operating its Shanghai route from Helsinki since September 2, 2003, initially with three weekly rotations increasing to five weekly rotations from May 31, 2004, and up to daily flights from 2006.
Finnair is now operating the route in a code-share agreement with the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines that commenced flights on the route from June 28, 2019, connecting Shanghai and Helsinki - its first European destination.
