Jul 01, 2020 (newstodate): EASA, the European Air Safety Agency has banned Pakistan International Airlines flights into the airspace of its member states.
The ban takes effect from today, July 1, 2020, and will initially be in effect for six months.
The decision is based on the airline's lack of compliance with international standards for certifying and overseeing its operators and aircraft.
The ban was announced less than a week after Pakistan's Aviation Minister alleged in Parliament that a third of the state carrier's pilots possessed fake or “dubious” licenses, and comes after the fatal accident by flight PK8303 on May 22, 2020, that cost 97 lives.
With the enforcement of the ban, flights by PIA operated once weekly to Copenhagen and Oslo are also cancelled alongside flights to London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Birmingham and Manchester.
