Jun 22, 2020 (newstodate): Wizz Air was the first foreign low-cost carrier to operate flights to Russia's St Petersburg - and has now become the first to establish a base in Russia, at St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport.
Wizz Air performed its first flight to St Petersburg from Budapest on August 27, 2017.
With its new Russian base, the carrier will be in a position to fully exploit the 7th Freedom Rights allowing it to carry passengers or cargo between two foreign countries without any continuing service to its own country, as well as the visa-free access to the region, enforced from the start of 2020.
As a first move, Wizz Air will be offering flights between St Petersburg and Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm Skavsta from late September 2020.
