Jun 04, 2020 (newstodate): Riga Airport is our second cargo hub, says Andrii Kishynskyi, Eleron CEO.
The Ukrainian cargo carrier Eleron, the first in Ukraine, is now operating flights between Lviv and Riga and adding flights between Kiev and Riga from this month carrying incoming Chinese e-commerce shipments to Ukraine for distribution on its domestic network connecting Ukraine's main cities.
-We started out with two AN-26 freighter aircraft in the fleet and have now grown to operating five of these freighters while planning to add three Boeing 737-400 converted freighters in 2020 on a leasing arrangement with a Canadian company.
-Our business plan is to build up a wide network, and in this we will cooperate with larger airlines offering access to new markets. We started cooperating with airBaltic and Lufthansa and are now in talks with KLM and TAP, planning to expand to new airports in Europe including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Lisbon and Madrid.
-For the last four months, we have been operating two weekly rotations between Lviv and Riga, growing from 10 tonnes per week to now 50 tonnes per week, also thanks to cargo flown into Riga Airport by Atran Airlines, and we will be operating three to five weekly rotations between Kiev and Riga from June 2020.
-We are most happy with our operations at Riga Airport and see huge opportunities for this airport as a cargo hub, said Mr Kishinskyi, speaking at a webinar on May 28, 2020, "Aviation Cargo Development in Riga after Recovery".
Set up in 2017 and landing its AOC in 2018, the carrier plans to obtain IOSA certification in 2020 as well as applying for IATA membership.
