Jun 25, 2020 (newstodate): Swedavia has seen cargo volumes at its three largest airports down by 28 percent, y-o-y, during January-May 2020.
A total of 77,416 tonnes of cargo was handled during the period at Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg, and Malmo Airport.
With 50,496 tonnes and down 29.9 percent, Stockholm Airport was hit the most, relying on normally strong passenger aircraft traffic that was suspended during most of the period.
On the positive side, Stockholm Airport saw movements by freighters - including Qatar Airways' two weekly Boeing 777F rotations - and all-cargo flights up by 38 percent, y-o-y, thanks to the frantic traffic carrying PPE from China.
Gothenburg Airport was down 28.8 percent to 18,489 tonnes, while Qatar Airways started operating a weekly Boeing 777F freighter service between Doha and Gothenburg from May 15, 2020.
Primarily served by integrators, Malmo Airport was less affected, down "only" 11.9 percent during the period to a total of 8,430 tonnes.
Overall, air cargo import volumes were down 20 percent and exports down 36 percent, y-o-y, on the three Swedavia airports.
