Jun 09, 2020 (newstodate): Several initiatives are underway to add new air logistics solutions for seafood exporters in Norway's northern regions.
Over the last few years, efforts have been invested in establishing direct freighter services from Eveness Airport to destinations in China, driven by Stig Winther, Pole Position Logistics.
While hopes were to see the start of services already in 2019, several snags emerged along the road - but the project is indeed taking shape.
Now, a new company has been set up to spur the project at Eveness: Perishable Center Nord, with main shareholders including Nordlaks Opdrett, Ellingsen Seafood, Salfra and Astafjord Export.
According to Norwegian media, fresh signs of life have now also come from Bodoe where plans for a freighter service also to China have been in aired since 2019, aiming at start of services already by Autumn 2019 - which did also not materialize.
Now, fresh preparations have been made in cooperation with Wideroe Ground Handling for complementing the airport infrastructure including pertinent handling equipment to allow for handling of large freighter aircraft, and the project claims that a preliminary agreement has been reached with an operator to start services already from this autumn.
In the meantime, Avinor has teamed up with Norwegian Seafood Federation to conduct a feasibility study on potentials for direct freighter services out of airports in Norway's northern region - with results to be presented before the end of this year.
