Jun 03, 2020 (newstodate): A feasibility study on the potentials for freighter services to lift seafood exports directly out of Northern Norway is underway.
Behind the study launched early in 2020 is a cooperation between Avinor and the Norwegian Seafood Federation as well as involving several of the Federation's members, and results are expected to be presented within a year.
-Producers and exporters of seafood in Northern Norway have long been seeking solutions in seafood air logistics to lift shipments directly out of an airport close to the production sites, as an alternative to relying on long hours of trucking into Oslo Airport, or trucking into Finland to reach Finnair's flights to Asian and North Atlantic destinations, says Trond Davidsen, Norwegian Seafood Federation Dep Mng Dir.
-The study is to analyze potentials for pure freighter services with high frequency and directional balance to warrant sustainable year-round services out of one of Northern Norway's airports.
-The feasibility study is clearly driven by exporters in the region that have seen many aborted projects over the years but are still confident of huge benefits to be reaped if a viable and lasting solution could be found, says Mr Davidsen.
Leading the feasibility study is Lars Draagen, Avinor Snr Exec Advisor Group Staff Strategy and Development.
