Jun 10, 2020 (newstodate): After a rather tumultuous history, a new leisure carrier is emerging in the market: HiSky Moldova.
HiSky Moldova, managed by Iulian Scorpan as CEO, has signed a long-term lease contract with Air Lease Corporation for one Airbus A320-200 aircraft, scheduled for delivery this July as the first aircraft in the fleet of the Moldovan startup airline.
However, HiSky Moldova was long considered to be a hoax and a fraud.
As late as April 2020, Moldova's CAA stressed in an announcement that the handling of HiSky Moldova's request for an AOC had been stalled and would not be activated as the company had not presented the documents requested.
The company had also been misleading the market by posing as an airline and opening bookings without any basis for the transactions, CAA said.
Furthermore, the CAA found that HiSky Moldova had faked its identity by using the IATA code of another carrier, United Airways Bangladesh.
To cap it off, HiSky Moldova had claimed to launch business with two Airbus A320 aircraft operated by its "partner", the Romanian airline Cobrex Trans Airline that is, however, only operating Boeing 737-300 aircraft and not allowed to operate on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
According to CAA, HiSky Moldova was still not licensed for commercial operation as of May 12, 2020, while accepting bookings for flights from Chisinau to six European destinations.
Not the most promising start for a new airline project - but now the skies are opening, it seems...
