Jun 15, 2020 (newstodate): As airports slowly see commercial passenger traffic returning, space for parking of aircraft on taxiways and aprons will become increasing sparse.
So far airports, including Copenhagen Airport, have offered space for aircraft parking at no cost, but the situation is changing, and Norway's Avinor is now expected to announce a gradual stop to aircraft parking by July 2020, sources say.
Seeing a new niche in the market, the owner of Norway's Farsund Lista Airport with one 2,990m runway, Arne S. Mikalsen, has established a new company, Farsund Aircraft Storage.
The company will be offering storage for up to 150 aircraft including Airbus A320, Boeing 737, Airbus A330/340 and even Boeing 787 aircraft, benefiting from a rather stable climate and parking on concrete surfaces.
While only storage is offered, the new company works with partners including the Icelandic EASA part 145-approved maintenance company Arctic Maintenance as well as the Icelandic company GMT, Ground Maintenance Technics that can provide wrapping of aircraft for protection on long-term storage.
If all bits fall into place, Farsund Aircraft Storage may start operations within the coming few weeks.
