Jun 15, 2020 (newstodate): The recurrent outbreak of Covid-19 in Beijing is bad news for Norway's exports of fresh salmon to China.
According to media, the virus was found on chopping boards where imported salmon was cut at Beijing's largest fresh food market, causing several other markets to be shut down and raising fears that the situation will cause an immediate decline in salmon imports.
Latest statistics from Norway's Seafood Council report a drop by 32 percent, y-o-y, in volumes of fresh salmon to China in week 23 ending June 7, to 352 tonnes, while volumes in weeks 1-23 were also down 8.9 percent to 9,645 tonnes.
