Jun 30, 2020 (newstodate): Lithuania's state enterprise Oro Navigacija is breathing a sigh of relief over recovery in commercial flights in and through the country's airspace.
At least the figures for May 2020 show a clear increase over the preceding month, with the number of terminal flights up by 10.2 percent, the number of overflights plus 28 percent, and the total number of flights over Lithuania up by 25.9 percent.
Compared to May 2019, the picture however remains less encouraging as the overall volume of flights within the airspace was down by 78.2 percent to 5,345 flights; also the volume of overflights dropped by 77 percent to 4,324 flights.
In May 2020, most of the overflights across Lithuania related to the Russian Federation, totaling 1,101 movements. #2 Germany accounted for 1,024 flights, and China was ranking #3 with 489 flights, while flights to and from South Korea also increased over April 2020.
In May, Aeroflot, Lufthansa and AirBridgeCargo Airlines were the most frequent in overflights, while cargo airlines EAT, SprintAir, Transaviabaltika and GetJet were leading in all-cargo flights to and from Lithuania.
Most of the flights from Lithuania were destined for Germany – 67 flights; #2 Latvia generated 54 flights, and the CIS accounted for 40 flights.
Germany also generated most of the flights to Lithuania, followed by Latvia and the CIS.
