Jun 29, 2020 (newstodate): Breaking the generally pessimistic view in the aviation industry, Lithuanian Airport is upbeat about seeing air traffic rebounding.
Lithuanian Airports Plc has presented its forecast for the aviation sector in 2020 showing that after the global challenges of the pandemic, the extremely rapid recovery of passenger aviation may take place as early as this July.
-We are in constant contact with the airlines that operated at all three Lithuanian airports before the pandemic, and almost all of them are already operating now or will return to our airports from July, will maintain their former routes, with some even planning to add new ones, says Aurimas Stikliunas, Lithuanian Airports Head of the Aviation Services Division.
Although this year's total volume of passengers and flights will land in the read, compared to 2019, the return plans for airlines and the accelerating recovery of scheduled flights are very positive signs, with already as many as 70 planned destinations, according to Lithuanian Airports.
The total number of flights in 2020 at the three airports managed by Lithuanian Airports is now expected to be about 38,000, some 39 percent less than last year, but expectations are that 2019-levels will be reached already by the end of 2021.
