Jun 02, 2020 (newstodate): SmartLynx Malta has now become the second Baltic carrier, after Avion Express Malta, to obtain the FAA approval, enabling the airline to conduct passenger and cargo operations to, from, and transiting the United States.
-The FAA approval is a major milestone in our company's history, and a crucial step enabling us to fully follow through the recently signed agreement with GlobalX, says Zygimantas Surintas, SmartLynx CEO in a release on the event.
Earlier this year, SmartLynx Airlines and GlobalX inked a comprehensive commercial agreement covering several areas for cooperation and for the exchange of aircraft on damp lease during each airline's peak periods, cooperating on cost reductions through shared services, pilot and cabin crew recruitment and training.
Currently under FAA certification, GlobalX is a new airline operating Airbus A320 family aircraft planning to grow to a fleet of 10 to 15 A320 aircraft, later supplemented by Airbus A330 aircraft to provide dual capability and optionality to clients in long range charter and ACMI/wet lease operations in the US, Caribbean and Latin American markets.
Both Latvia's SmartLynx and Lithuania's Avion Express are members of the ever-growing Avia Solutions Group.
