Jun 26, 2020 (newstodate): While Emirates is slowly reopening flights on its international route network, cargo has cemented its position after the experience during the corona crisis.
The carrier has thus decided to offer additional cargo capacity by modifying Economy Class cabins on 10 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, in response to strong air cargo demand.
The modified aircraft are to be deployed on routes where Emirates SkyCargo sees maximum demand for movement of urgently required goods.
As one example, Emirates SkyCargo in May 2020 decided to schedule two weekly Boeing 777-300ER passenger belly freighters on Fridays and Sundays between Copenhagen and Dubai, each carrying more than 40 tonnes, or 150 cb.m. of cargo.
The service carries medical supplies including PPE into Copenhagen, while export loads comprise shipments such as temperature sensitive medicines and pharmaceuticals, relief cargo, ship spares, food ingredients, enzymes, thermostats and industrial machinery.
In Scandinavia, Scanpartners serves as GSSA for Emirates SkyCargo, while WFS serves as its cargo handling provider since November 5, 2019.
