Jun 19, 2020 (newstodate): The Ukrainian cargo carrier Eleron is continuously raising capacity on its flights between Ukraine and Latvia.
Eleron performed its first rotation between Kiev and Riga on January 17, 2020, later adding also flights between Lviv and Riga with AN-26 rotations lifting some 5.5 tonnes.
The routes carry incoming ex-China e-trade shipments by Atran from Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport into Riga for transfer to Ukraine, and lift mail shipments from Ukraine back to Riga for onward transportation on carriers including airBaltic and Lufthansa.
Eleron sees prospects for raising volumes on the route between Riga and Lviv to 150 tonnes per week against some 10 tonnes from the start and growing today to about 50 tonnes per week.
The capacity increase will also lead to replacing the AN-26 freighter with Boeing 737-300 converted freighters, of which Eleron will take delivery of three leased units in 2020.
In May 2020, the Russian carrier, member of the Volga-Dnepr Group, Atran has now increased frequency on the route between Moscow and Riga to five weekly rotations using Boeing 737-800BCF freighters serving China's Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited and VAS Latvijas Pasts.
Atran Airlines started operating at Riga Airport with just one weekly rotation from May 9, 2019.
