Jun 26, 2020 (newstodate): Border closures and national lockdowns turned Oslo Airport into a truly "silent airport" at least when it comes to commercial passenger operations.
While passenger flight movements were few from March 2020 till the gradual and cautious lifting of the curfew by mid-June, freighter and all-cargo operations have kept at least part of the airport busy.
No less than 3,105 freighter and all-cargo pax flight movements have been performed at Oslo Airport in weeks 1-25, ending June 21, 2020, which is eight percent more than in the same period 2019, peaking in weeks 24 and 25 that each saw 156 movements.
The freighter movements comprised commercial cargo operators lifting notably seafood shipments out of Norway as well as integrator traffic, while all-cargo movements comprise commercial airlines, including Etihad and SAS, transporting cargo in passenger aircraft belly compartments for PPE customers.
The absence of capacity on passenger flights drove volumes down by 11 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 61,884 tonnes during January-May 2020, with volumes in May - 13,473 tonnes - roughly on a par with January, while volumes in April dipped heavily by 27 percent, y-o-y, to 9,372 tonnes.
