Jun 05, 2020 (newstodate): With the first flight on May 6, 2020, the Danish transport and logistics company Blue Water has been online with an own cargo service between Copenhagen and Shanghai.
The company contracted SAS to provide a series of eight rotations on the route with Airbus A350 or A330 passenger aircraft on the all-cargo mission to bring PPE and other shipments to Scandinavia. This series has now been completed.
-We have performed all eight operations with SAS, and this cooperation has come to an end, says Ole Haahr Hansen, Blue Water Head of Airfreight.
-The operation proved a success, was introduced timely in a challenging market situation, and generated much valuable experience for both parties.
-However, the market has changed dramatically as more and more capacity has been thrown in by a multitude of operators, to the effect that rates have plummeted, making continued flight operations unsustainable for us. Instead, we are back from full-charter to blocked-space agreements with airlines.
-Rounding-off the operation, we are adding a 9th full-charter flight this Sunday, June 7, having contracted an East European all-cargo carrier to fly from Shanghai to Billund Airport with the remaining PPE shipments in this series, says Mr Hansen.
