May 11, 2020 (newstodate): The planned airline venture WOW Air is continuing its preparations for launch of services.
As the latest news from the project, WOW Air has named Dmitry Kaparulin as Country Director Russia & CIS.
Mr Kaparulin is no newcomer to the commercial aviation, having started his career with Alitalia as Sales Rep Russia in December 1998 and later working with companies and institutions including SAS, IATA, Air Astana and AirBridgeCargo - last serving as ABC Head of Global Sales Products until his new assignment with WOW Air from the start of this month.
Other recent appointments serving as proof of intentions include the appointment of Giuseppe Cataldo as Director of WOW Air Italy, and of Magnus Magnusson as Managing Director of WOW Air Cargo Global.
There are still, however, no indications of when and where WOW Air intends to start services.
At a press conference in Reykjavik on September 6, 2019, the US company USAerospace Associates LLC announced its acquisition of the WOW Air brand to bring back WOW Air in the air.
Initially based on a US AOC, later to be supplemented by an Icelandic AOC, ambitions were to start low-cost flights between Keflavik and Washington already in October 2019, initially with a fleet of two aircraft and planning to grow to six aircraft by summer 2020 - finally landing at some 10-12 aircraft.
Since then, few signs of life have proved the seriousness of the project apart from the opening of a cafe in downtown Washington flying the banner: "WOW Air & Cafe landing soon".
