May 01, 2020 (newstodate): The Lithuanian transport company RM Cargo Baltic is an active contributor to the import of PPE from China to the Baltic markets.
The company is currently chartering uplift capacity for a series of so far 16 all-cargo operations from Chinese airports to primarily Vilnius Airport, using capacity from various airline partners.
-We have managed to charter a few pure freighter aircraft, but the market is so limited that we are mostly chartering passenger aircraft converted to all-cargo flights, says Aleksas Mineikis, RM Cargo Baltic Head of Sales Department.
-Only half a year ago, we would joke about putting cargo shipments in passenger seats; now, this has unexpectedly become the main trend as demand for pure freighter capacity has by far outstripped availability. Today, even older freighter aircraft, formerly grounded, are being returned to commercial service.
-Right now, we are facing a temporary gap in the PPE traffic due to the Chinese May 1 holidays spanning the coming five days when it will be rather difficult to keep production lines running and obtain confirmation of shipments' readiness. But after this, the process will speed up again, and RM Cargo Baltic is currently negotiating new contracts for another five or six charter flights from China to the Baltic market.
-RM Cargo Baltic has been in the Lithuanian air cargo market for some 10 years, and we generate some 70 percent of our revenues from this business, while being active also in the sea and road transport markets, with special focus on the Baltic region as well as East Europe and the CIS, says Mr Mineikis.
Offering comprehensive door-to-door air and sea cargo transport and logistics solutions, the company does not operate own warehouses, or trucking fleet, subcontracting instead long-time trusted partners to provide the services requested by customers.
