May 06, 2020 (newstodate): One Lithuanian airport is seeing cargo soaring in 2020: Kaunas Airport.
In 2019, the airport handled a total of 1,044 tonnes of cargo during January-April - a volume growing by no less than 95 percent during the same period in 2020, accruing to 2,028 tonnes!
A key driver behind the significant growth in cargo is the Lithuanian forwarding and transport company Hoptrans that has set up a scheduled all-cargo service from Beijing and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport to Kaunas, by late April 2020 operating six weekly flights by converted passenger aircraft chartered from various Russian and East European airlines.
The volume of weekly flights is to increase further as a Boeing 777F is introduced to carry shipments of e-commerce goods, electronics and medical equipment into Kaunas Airport, with Hoptrans providing onward trucking of goods on a network spanning most of Europe.
