May 20, 2020 (newstodate): The Icelandic ACMI carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic has reduced its fleet of Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft by two units, now sent for part-out and scrap.
Manufactured in 1999 and 2992, respectively, the two aircraft have been operating for the Icelandic company's long-standing customer Saudia since 2012 and 2014.
In the fleet are now still five Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft operated on a wet-lease contract with Saudia, recently extended for a new three-years period.
Air Atlanta Icelandic is also operating seven Boeing 747-400 freighters, with four serving with Magma Aviation and another four with Astal Aviation - and the company will add one more Boeing 747-400F already in July 2020.
In the meantime, plans by the start of this year to introduce the Airbus A330-200F by May and the Boeing 777F by June 2020 have, not surprisingly, been postponed due to the pandemic's market upheaval.
-We have completed our preparations and await more clarity and better market conditions before we can take a decision to re-launch the programs, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic CEO.
