May 14, 2020 (newstodate): Finnair is now boosting its involvement in the all-cargo passenger flights business.
Starting from week 21, Finnair will add one more weekly all-cargo passenger aircraft rotation between Helsinki and Beijing, Hong Kong and Bangkok, in all cases going up to three weekly services.
Already in the schedule is a daily rotation between Helsinki and Shanghai, three weekly rotations between Helsinki and Guangzhou, Tokyo Narita, and Seoul Incheon, as well as two weekly rotations between Helsinki and Osaka and between Helsinki and New York JFK.
From next week, Finnair Cargo is thus scheduling a total of 29 weekly rotations with Airbus A350-900 passenger aircraft carrying belly cargo only, with operations to other destinations as requested.
Finnair's first all-cargo flight with an Airbus A350-900 passenger aircraft was performed on March 28, 2020, between Helsinki and Seoul.
So far, the all-cargo operations are performed with Airbus A350 aircraft, of which only two have been reconfigured for all-cargo use with seats removed.
The carrier is now looking into activating some of its currently eight grounded Airbus A330-300 aircraft for all-cargo operations.
With all passenger seats removed, the aircraft would gain capacity of a further 28 pallets, translating into some 76 sq m or 7.3 tonnes of cargo, bringing the fully loaded all-cargo aircraft to lifting up to 46.5 tonnes of cargo.
