May 06, 2020 (newstodate): Business aviation operators share the plights of the global aviation industry as little exec or VIP flights are currently in demand.
So far, the main lifeline to the business aircraft operators has been medic flights on special assignments from state health and similar organizations.
One further challenge to business aviation operators has been the demand for implementation of ADS-B compliance so far set for June 2020, which would incur another investment burden.
The EU Commission has now accepted to extend the deadline for ADS-B in new aircraft by six months, to December 7, 2020, citing the devastating impact of the COVID-19 crisis on aircraft operators.
The EU Commission has also granted the exemption for aircraft that will be phased out before 31 October 31, 2025.
According to the adapted regulation, operators of aircraft manufactured before December 7, 2020, will have until June 7, 2023, to comply with the ADS-B requirement if they have established a retrofit compliance program before the new December 7 deadline.
The precondition is however that the operator has not received EU funds to comply with ADS-B implementation.
