May 25, 2020 (newstodate): Uncertainty reigns over when Chinese limitations on passenger air services between China and the world will be lifted, allowing for traffic to build up again.
From March 29, Chinese and foreign airlines are only allowed to operate one passenger route with only one weekly rotation between China and any specific country.
Besides, the passenger load factor on each flight may not exceed 75 percent.
Hopes are now that these limitations may be lifted from June 2020, while other sources indicate that the system may remain in place until the expiry of the current summer schedule ending October 2020.
If the limitations are indeed retained through the summer schedule, an airline like Finnair relying heavily on its Asian, notable Chinese, traffic will suffer.
Since February 2020, Finnair has suspended all flights to Guangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, and Xian in Mainland China.
The carrier now plans to reopen flights to Beijing Daxing Airport from July 3, with two weekly rotations, and to Shanghai from July 2, 2020, with three weekly rotations - all pending government approvals that are currently still not granted.
