May 04, 2020 (newstodate): Billund Airport saw its total cargo volumes down by 21 percent, y-o-y, in April 2020.
4,459 tonnes of cargo were handled at Billund, including 1,432 tonnes of imports, down 26.7 percent, and 3,027 tonnes of exports, also down 17.9 percent.
During the first four months of this year, Billund Airport is thus down 10.2 percent in total volumes handled, including 6,166 tonnes of imports, down 16.9 percent, and 14,946 tonnes of exports faring better by a more modest drop by 7.1 percent, y-o-y.
The bulk of the cargo handled at Cargo Center Billund is trucked to and from European hubs, and with an almost complete stop to passenger flights the lower-deck capacity is gone, immediately leading to a short-fall of volumes handled operations at Billund Airport as well.
However, the airport is still handling some 42 weekly freighter operations by integrators UPS, Fedex/TNT, and DHL as well as Turkish Cargo, and in total the all-cargo operators aggregate some 400 tonnes of cargo per week, imports and exports combined.
