Apr 30, 2020 (newstodate): Emirates SkyCargo is working hard to help maintain and replenish food supplies in the UAE during the Covid-19 pandemic - with Norway as one key provider.
More than 34,000 tonnes of food has been lifted into the country between January and April 2020, out of which 13,000 tonnes were imported between March and April, and in April alone, Emirates SkyCargo flew food supplies into the UAE from over 35 countries around the world.
Among the loads of perishables for consumers during this period were close to 1,600 tonnes of salmon from Norway. This is, however, a modest increase by only one percent, y-o-y, in volumes of salmon exported to the UAE during the first 17 weeks of this year, according to Norwegian statistics.
Emirates performed its first passenger flight to Oslo Airport on September 2, 2014, since then offering between five and seven rotations.
But from March 25, 2020, Emirates has cancelled all international passenger flights, preliminarily planning to reopen traffic, also to Oslo, again from May 22, 2020, with one daily rotation.
With the first operation on October 11, 2016, Emirates SkyCargo next added a scheduled weekly freighter operation between Oslo and Dubai, periodically going up to two weekly rotations plus ad-hoc flights during peak seasons, but currently down to only one weekly rotation.
