Apr 27, 2020 (newstodate): The race for air cargo capacity as most of the world's passenger flights are cancelled opens new windows of opportunity.
DB Schenker has launched a partnership with Icelandair for start of a series of all-cargo flights between China, Europe and the USA.
Under the contract, three of Icelandair's four Boeing 767-300 passenger aircraft will be converted to cargo purposes for flights from Shanghai to Munich and to Chicago via a stop at Keflavik, Iceland.
With the first rotation on April 26, the series will comprise "at least" 45 rotations with 12 rotations per week.
Earlier, Icelandair told newstodate that the dry-leased Boeing 767 aircraft is already used for all-cargo purposes on flights to the USA, offering a record-high capacity of up to 25 tonnes of cargo.
On the Schenker-flights, volume will however count more than tonnage as the loads are primarily PPE shipments.
