Apr 06, 2020 (newstodate): As many other airlines around the world, the Boeing 747 is also to see the end of its commercial service life as a passenger aircraft in Russia.
The only Russian carrier to operate the Boeing 747, Rossiya has now announced that it is phasing out its four Boeing 747 aircraft not later than 2024.
The airline, with HQs at St Petersburg and main hub at Pulkovo Airport, is operating a fleet of nine Boeing 747-400 aircraft, now grounded during the corona-crisis.
Since 2011, Rossiya has been a member airline of the state-owned Aeroflot Group.
Boeing 747-400 and -8 aircraft are however still in Russian service as freighters, with Volga-Dnepr Airlines' 18 units as the largest operator with four Boeing 747-400ERF, three Boeing 747-400F and eleven 747-8F.
