Apr 06, 2020 (newstodate): Norway's seafood exporters enjoyed the rare opportunity of sending seafood from Oslo on a direct non-stop flight to Tokyo Narita during the weekend.
Serving the market was Ethiopian Cargo with a Boeing 777F aircraft presumably flying in with medical equipment and offering the cargo capacity in the Norwegian market as a one-off operation that was also Ethiopian Airlines' first operation into Japan.
With the first flight on March 27, 2017, Ethiopian Airlines has been operating five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, providing the first direct air link from Oslo to Africa via Stockholm that has been served since October 28, 2003.
The flights have, however, been suspended since March 2020 until end of April, and earlier plans for upgrading the services to daily flights from June 25, 2020, have been shelved for the time being.
The carrier has also long been mulling plans for introducing scheduled freighter operations to and from Oslo Airport, but these have not so far materialized, also due to lack of overflights rights through Russian airspace.
