Apr 03, 2020 (newstodate): The Government of Cabo Verde has suspended plans for the eventual full take-over of the national carrier, Cabo Verde Airlines, now owned 51 percent by the Icelandair Group's Loftleidir Cab Verde.
According to the agreed time frame, Loftleidir was to take over a next tranche of 39 of the 49 percent still held by the Cabo Verde state.
In light of the current turmoil in the industry due to the coronavirus that has also grounded all flights by Cabo Verde Airlines, the parties have agreed to postpone the transaction, pending a decision on possible need for state aid to help the carrier through the ordeal.
Cabo Verde Airlines operates a fleet of four Boeing 757-200 Icelandair-leased aircraft and one Boeing 737-300 - all stuck on ground.
In 2017, Loftleidir Icelandic, TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and the Government of Cabo Verde inked a management agreement on the restructuring of the loss-making TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, and in March 2019, Loftleidir Cabo Verde, owned 70 percent by Loftleidir Icelandic ehf, and 30 percent by Icelandic investors, acquired 51 percent of Cabo Verde Airlines.
