Apr 22, 2020 (newstodate): Cargo volumes handled at Finland's Helsinki Airport dropped 35.1 percent, y-o-y, in March 2020, marked by the industry's global decline.
A total of 12,439 tonnes of cargo was handled at Helsinki, including 12.136 tonnes of international cargo and 232 tonnes of international mail, which was a deep drop by 33.5 and 68.1 percent, respectively, compared to last year.
Volumes of domestic cargo and mail also fell by 66.4 percent, y-o-y, to a mere 66 tonnes.
Finnair has suspended all flights to Guangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, Xian in Mainland China until April 30, 2020, and in April Finnair will operate the route to Hong Kong with only one instead of normally two daily flights.
Finnair is also cancelling two weekly rotations on the routes from Helsinki to Osaka, operating only 10 instead of earlier 12 weekly rotations during the period March 29 – October 24, 2020.
Services to South Korea were also cut as Finnair cancelled its daily flights to Seoul from March 9 to April 16, 2020, and Finnair will push back the launch of flights between Helsinki and Busan to July 1, 2020.
Juneyao Airlines has cut its flights program from Shanghai to Helsinki to only one weekly rotation, Tibet Airlines has suspended flights on its route between Jinan and Helsinki, and Sichuan Airlines has cancelled flights on its route between Chengdu and Helsinki.
