Apr 30, 2020 (newstodate): With the first landing at Copenhagen Airport on April 8, 2020, the Maersk Bridge aims to bring in large volumes of PPE from China to Denmark and other Scandinavian countries.
The first flight of a series so far comprising 26 operations was performed with a Silk Way West An-124-100 freighter carrying 665 sq m of cargo shipments comprising 500,000 surgical masks, 70,000 pieces of protective clothing and 100,000 isolation gowns.
Since then, other flights to Copenhagen Airport and Stockholm Airport have been performed by various chartered freighters as well as with Star Air's own Boeing 767 freighter fleet.
The latest and 7th operation was performed on April 28 by a Star Air freighter carrying one million surgical masks, 50,000 other masks and 45,000 isolation gowns for Danish health care workers.
The Maersk Bridge project covers the sourcing and transportation of PPE from China to Denmark, and was developed as a response to a request from Righospitalet to A.P. Moller Holding for help in sourcing crucial PPE for Danish hospital and medical care workers.
