Apr 27, 2020 (newstodate): Latvia's airBaltic has announced a new business plan, Destination 2025 CLEAN.
Destination 2025 CLEAN focuses on the impact of the Coronavirus crisis and adjustments needed to the existing five-year strategy.
-The new environment of the aviation industry requires serious and clear decisions for a positive business development. With Destination 2025 CLEAN we will be able to provide a very strong connectivity for the Baltic States, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic CEO.
The new plan foresees a reduced fleet for the upcoming years, initially resuming operations with the 22 Airbus A220-300 aircraft already in the fleet, while the remaining Boeing 737 and the entire fleet of 12 Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft will not be returned to service.
The new plan takes into account the reduced capacity for the years 2020 and 2021, while at the same time foresees return to growth with up to 50 Airbus A220-300 aircraft by the end of 2023.
Prior to the latest new strategy, the business plan Destination 2025 was presented in May 2018 and planning for the expansion of routes to the main European hubs from all three Baltic countries – Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
For years, airBaltic has been searching for a strategic partner to bolster its position, and also recently aired visions of setting up new airline subsidiaries in Europe with its growing fleet of Airbus aircraft.
None of these issues are touched upon in the rather sketchy presentation of the new strategy, however.
-The new business plan Destination 2025 CLEAN is an internal strategy that is not published, says the carrier's communication department in a reply to newstodate's inquiry.
