Apr 02, 2020 (newstodate): After the reopening of scheduled traffic, the Latvian carrier airBaltic reportedly plans to emerge as an all-Airbus aircraft operator.
According to Latvian media, air Baltic will not reinstate the fleet of Bombardier Q400 aircraft in scheduled services, relying instead solely on its growing fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
By these means, airBaltic will reap the full benefits from operating a young single-type aircraft fleet with low maintenance costs, low pilot training costs and full utilization of cockpit crews.
In the fleet of airBaltic are now 22 Airbus A220 and 12 Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft, the first of which was delivered in November 2009, and earlier planned to be phased out by 2023.
airBaltic introduced its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft on scheduled flights from December 14, 2016, and is currently awaiting the delivery of a further 28 aircraft with options for another 30 units.
newstodate has contacted airBaltic for confirmation of the said plans, and information on how to divest of 12 turboprop aircraft in today's market.
