Apr 01, 2020 (newstodate): The Icelandair Group is streamlining its organization to reduce costs in troubled times.
The Group has therefore decided to merge the operations of the subsidiary Air Iceland Connect with Icelandair while keeping the two airlines' on separate AOCs and own operating licences.
Mainly serving routes connecting Iceland and Greenland as well as providing capacity for Icelandair, Air Iceland Connect has been working hard to divest of excess aircraft capacity as its domestic and regional traffic declined dramatically over the last few years.
After finally divesting in late 2019 of one Bombardier Q400 aircraft on a five-year dry-lease contract with LAM Mozambique Airlines, Air Iceland Connect still has one Bombardier Dash Q200 aircraft up for sale, leaving two Q400 and three Q200 aircraft in the fleet.
Air Iceland Connect's current Managing Director Arni Gunnarsson will step down to become instead Mng Dir of another Icelandair Group subsidiary, Iceland Travel, the current Mng Dir of which, Bjorn Viglundsson, will leave the position after only 11 months of service.
