Apr 06, 2020 (newstodate): While the global airline industry is bleeding, some airlines find ways to capitalize on their assets - and are even not shy of it..
"During the month of March we helped thousands of stranded passengers to reach their homes and delivered tonnes of so needed medical supplies to Covid-19 affected countries", one Lithuanian airline says.
-The (...) team is working round the clock to ensure that all Global Supply Chains are moving! We're in this together", a Russian cargo carrier says.
But it is not all charity and social responsibility..
-Some airlines are really milking the markets they allegedly serve during these times of crisis, says Heikki Nikamaa, Cargo Flight Service Finland Ltd.
-Rates are sky-rocketing these days. One Boeing 747 or 777 freighter operation from China to Europe will now cost 450-700,000 USD one-way only, lifting some 100 tonnes, and I hear that the French government has contracted an operator to provide 16 flights from China carrying medical equipment to Paris at a cost of 1.5 mio USD per flight.
-Under normal conditions, the price would rather be less than 300.000 USD. This is really outrageous, says Mr Nikamaa.
