Apr 14, 2020 (newstodate): Steep rises in air cargo rates has forced rethinking of logistics for importers of Chinese coronavirus-protection gear.
One unique example is provided by Prime Cargo Norway that is behind a trucking operation to Norway from a manufacturer near Shanghai of hand disinfection spirits.
The transportation carrying some 22 tonnes of shipments is scheduled to require 18-20 days on the road via a routing from China via Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Sweden before landing at Prime Cargo's facilities at Vestby in Norway.
The operation will require several changes of trucks and drivers - but the reward is an estimated saving of up to 80 percent in total transportation costs, compared to rates offered by airlines that are still posing as benevolent providers of humanitarian flight operations in the fight against coronavirus.
-This is our first operation of this kind, but we are actually negotiating with other parties interested in similar transport solutions, says Vegard Kristiansen, Prime Cargo Norway Business Development Manager.
