Apr 28, 2020 (newstodate): Ethiopian Airlines is keen to develop its services in the Norwegian market.
On April 24, 2020, Ethiopian Airlines landed at Oslo Airport flying in from another European airport with a Boeing 777F to load seafood for a direct flight to Incheon, South Korea, as the carrier's second ad-hoc operation after a flight in early April from Oslo directly non-stop to Tokyo Narita, which was actually also Ethiopian Airlines' first operation into Japan.
-We are re-routing several flights on our European network to operate via Oslo Airport on their return flights. We have a strong interest in supporting the country's seafood export and establish strong business relationship with key players, says Mussie Fitehamlak, Ethiopian Airlines Area Manager Norway.
-Currently, we are also supporting the export to China by our freighter operations from Liege, and we will restore two weekly passenger flight to ensure essential passenger travel between Ethiopia and the Nordic region, and to provide more cargo uplift capacity from the region.
With the first flight on March 27, 2017, Ethiopian Airlines has been operating five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, providing the first-ever direct air link from Oslo to Africa as an extension of the route to Stockholm that had been served since October 28, 2003.
The flights have, however, been suspended since March 2020 until end of April, and earlier plans for upgrading the services to daily flights from June 25, 2020, have been shelved for the time being.
At Oslo Gardermoen Airport, the carrier is handled by SAS Ground Handling and Spirit Air Cargo Handling, while cargo sales are provided by Kales Airline Services.
