Apr 24, 2020 (newstodate): Ethiopian Airlines has again been offering extra one-off capacity for Norway's exporters of seafood to Asia.
According to industry sources, while not confirmed by the carrier, Ethiopian Airlines landed at Oslo Airport this morning flying in from another European airport with a Boeing 777F to load seafood for a direct flight to Incheon, South Korea.
This would be the second such operation after the carrier's operation in early April from Oslo on a direct non-stop flight to Tokyo Narita, which was actually also Ethiopian Airlines' first operation into Japan.
With the first flight on March 27, 2017, Ethiopian Airlines has been operating five weekly rotations between Addis Ababa and Oslo with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, providing the first-ever direct air link from Oslo to Africa as an extension of the route to Stockholm that had been served since October 28, 2003.
The flights have, however, been suspended since March 2020 until end of April, and earlier plans for upgrading the services to daily flights from June 25, 2020, have been shelved for the time being.
The carrier has also long been mulling plans for introducing scheduled freighter operations to and from Oslo Airport, but these have not so far materialized, also due to lack of overflights rights through Russian airspace.
