Apr 29, 2020 (newstodate): The Danish carrier Great Dane Airlines is seeing new opportunities opening as Norwegian has announced its decision to leave the Danish market till at least summer 2021.
The carrier is thus planning for launch of scheduled flights from its home base at Aalborg Airport to Copenhagen and Malaga from this summer - with other destinations like Mallorca and Alicante on the drawing board.
In the immediate situation, Great Dane Airlines is however still struggling on a day-to-day basis to make ends meet.
-It is an issue of liquidity in a situation with no revenues and costs only, says Thomas Hugo Moller, Great Dane Airline CEO.
-We have applied for a stake in the Danish aid package, but after so far one-and-a-half month of waiting we have not had any response to our application.
-It is a heavy drain on resources, but we will still be able to manage for a while, says Mr Moller.
Great Dane Airlines started out from June 14, 2020, with scheduled flights on a network from Aalborg Airport to destinations including Dublin, Edinburgh and Nice alongside offering capacity for Danish tour operators.
The focus was since turned to charter and ACMI services, leaving plans for the resumption of scheduled operations till a later date - now warranted by the demise of Norwegian in Denmark.
In the fleet are now three Embraer 195LR aircraft, with a fourth ex-flybe aircraft already painted in Great Dane Airlines' colors still awaiting delivery - which is no urgency for the airline in the current situation...
